Airing of the Quilts
Two years ago Glenis - the owner of Glenrose Patchwork was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and are pleased to say that Glenis is in remission. Glenis is one on the most positive and happy people I have ever met and her ultimate mission in life is not only to support others that succumb to cancer, but to also make people more aware of the importance of having regular mammograms and medical checks. Glenis is very grateful to all the ladies that gave her support and encouragement at that difficult time and especially to the ones that spoke about their own struggle with Cancer. It is always great to hear that ladies have survived 5, 10 or 20 years.
Last year with the help of some of her dear and best friends, Glenis hosted her first “Airing of the Quilts”, with all funds raised going to Breast Cancer. At first, many people thought that this would be a one off event , but to the surprise of everyone, there were over 100 quilts on display and 800 people went through the gates.
Update on 2010 Airing of the Quilts.
MEDIA RELEASE 23 RD JULY 2010.
The 2nd Glenrose Patchwork "Airing of the Quilts" was an even bigger success than last year with over 100 quilts displayed. We had in excess of 1,000 people visit our event, coming from the Sunshine and Gold Coasts, Lismore, Dalby, Stanthorpe, Brisbane and even two lovely people from Denmark!
On Saturday, apart from the wonderful quilt display, the Killarey School of Dance entertained in the morning with the Aperitif Jazz Ensemble playing up a storm while visitors enjoyed a light lunch.
First Prize in our mult-raffle of a beautiful queen size quilt and pillow was won by Mr G Buchner of Warwick and all the other prize winners have been notified.
This year we raised over $9,000, which will be presented to the Breast Cancer Association of Queensland at the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers with all funds raised staying on the Darling Downs and used to help fund Breast Care Nurses in the area.
We wish to thank all the sponsors, who supported our event and the many volunteers, who made this event so successful as well as all the patchwork quilting ladies, who allowed us to display their beautiful quilts.
